My BDC Portfolio And The Strategy For Alpha Going Forward
This is my first BDC portfolio monthly performance review article. The good news is that the portfolio has done its job, outperforming the two BDC benchmarks - PBDC and BIZD. Yet, on an absolute basis, the portfolio is slightly down.

MSC Income Fund: I Like What I See, But Investors Shouldn't Get Too Excited Yet
MSC Income Fund, managed by Main Street Capital, shows stable financials and growth but has a short track record, making it a hold for now. The BDC's leverage ratio is solid at 0.90x, and it has less exposure to floating-rate debt compared to peers, which is a positive. MSC Income Fund takes equity stakes in all lower middle-market borrowers, providing additional income sources and unrealized appreciation.

1 BDC And 1 MLP For 9% Non-Cyclical Retirement Income
The recent events in the market have made risk mitigation a relevant topic once again. This is especially important for investors, who want to maximize yield, while keeping the risks balanced (and income cut distant). In this article I have shared two picks, which offer close to 9% yields and the necessary fundamentals to deliver non-cyclical (de-risked) distributions.

The Moment Of Truth For BDC Dividend Investors Is Close
As a structural BDC bull I have to admit that the period of BDCs consistently surprising us on the upside has come to an end. Many lower quality BDCs have already cut their dividends to sync their cash flows with less favorable private credit lending environment. I would say that the moment of truth for high quality BDCs is also very close, where we will see how really durable their base dividends are.

MSIF: Similar To MAIN, Just Better
MSC Income Fund (MSIF) is a newly publicly traded BDC with a very similar strategy and portfolio as MAIN. In fact it is externally managed by MAIN. Yet, the most notable difference lies in the P/NAV multiples. For MSIF the metric stands at 1.1x, while for MAIN at 1.9x. In the article I share several reasons why I like MSIF much better than MAIN and why I will likely add it to my actual BDC portfolio by the end of this month.
