4 Closed-End Fund Buys (And A Sell) In The Month Of December 2024
Every month I add to my income-focused CEF portfolio, which creates a snowball and compounds growing cash flow over time. With some greater volatility opening up in the broader market, that helped to provide some select opportunities in what appears to be an otherwise still pretty pricey market. While no one knows what the future holds for sure, I'm still holding on to a sizeable cash position that I'd look to deploy in a broader market correction.

PDX: The Big Move And Additional Catalysts
PDX holds a significant stake in Venture Global, which is planning an IPO to raise $2-2.3bn with a $110bn valuation. Venture Global's innovative modular construction approach could expedite and reduce costs for its planned LNG export terminals in Louisiana. We go through the math of the PDX position in Venture Global private Class A shares.

PDX: Neither The NAV Nor The Market Has Fully Priced In The Venture Global IPO
PIMCO Dynamic Income Strategy Fund moved away from its Energy focus in 2024 but still holds about 50% in the sector, including pre-IPO shares of LNG company Venture Global. There is more upside to PDX NAV if VG prices within or above the current $40-$46 range. If VG prices at the top of the range and PDX closes its discount to NAV, PDX could gain around 18% from its market price of $31.86.

PDX: An Energy Infrastructure-Bond Fund Hybrid That Looks Very Expensive
The PIMCO Dynamic Income Strategy Fund offers a lower yield than its peers and other PIMCO funds, making it less attractive for income-focused investors. Despite its lower yield, the fund has delivered a strong total return, outperforming its peers and the S&P 500 over the past five years. The fund's significant exposure to energy sector equities, particularly midstream master limited partnerships, may have contributed to its recent strong performance.

PIMCO Cuts A Couple Of Distributions, Who Could Be Next?
RCS and PCM recently announced distribution cuts, and they were simultaneously trading at some hefty premiums to their NAV per share. We saw the usual outcome, which is a drastic sell-off as is often the case with the dangerous combination of elevated NAV distribution rates and premiums are mixed. We are looking at two more names to warn about in the future, but predicting distribution cuts is incredibly difficult as funds can pay out what they'd like.

11 Closed-End Fund Buys In The Month Of November 2024
This month, I've added to 11 different positions, but most of these were related to repurchases after the BlackRock tender offers. While I added to 11 different positions, these were all positions I had already held previously, so there were no new positions this month. In fact, I sold out of a fund to consolidate my holdings and reduce the number of funds held, as I did last month as well.
